Establishing Operations Consultation

Establishing Operations, Inc. specializes in providing hands on training workshops and setting up in home, language based programs for children and adolescents with autism and other developmental and language delays. All independent contractors of EO Inc., have both applied and clinical experience including at least five years of experience in applying the principals of applied behavior analysis (with an emphasis on Skinner’s analysis of verbal behavior) to develop and implement full language programs.

The purpose of an evaluation is to determine current skill levels across several domains, e.g., expressive and receptive language, behavioral, social, independent self care, independent play skills, academic, etc., as well as to determine the most effective methods of teaching the child. The results of the evaluation are most valuable when:

    1. Both the consultant assigned to the case and the consultant supervisor (MS, BCABA) are present for the initial evaluation. (This option is available upon request and in some cases may be recommended).

    2. At least an entire day (6-8 hours) is spent with the child in as many learning environments as possible. (If you are running an in-home program, a full day in the home is suggested).

    3. All of the people who are working and interacting with the child are present for the full duration of each consultation visit. (Under some circumstances this may only be parents).

    4. Each consultation visit is video taped by the client for future reference and as a baseline of performance from which to measure improved performance.

    5. A final summary is dictated at the end of the consultation visit (this may be video taped by the client) and a follow up report is requested to be written and sent at a later date (Available at an additional cost. These typically include recommended data sheets and graphs, as well as specific instructions for all procedures implemented during the visit).

    6. The consultant assigned to the case continues to provide on-going consultation visits in the home once every two to three months.

    7. Follow up consultation occurs via video, phone calls and/or e-mail between in home consultation visits.

    8. The consultant assigned to the case meets regularly with the supervisor specifically assigned to the case to discuss recommendations as well as the child’s current progress. The supervisor assists with program decisions and the development of strategies to increase the child’s rate of progress.

The evaluation procedures will be guided by the methods of effective teaching found in the literature of Applied Behavior Analysis. A particular emphasis will be placed on teaching the child to communicate expressively. The methods and materials developed by Drs. Sundberg and Partington and published in their manuals “The Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills” (ABLLS) will guide the evaluation and ultimately will guide recommendations regarding teaching procedures for the child.

During the initial visit, the consultant and/or the consultant supervisor will conduct an assessment, develop the child’s full verbal behavior program and provide hands on training to the individuals working with the child during the consultation visit.
